Peekskill music teacher John Hahn has been selected as WHUD’s Teacher of the Month for October 2010. The award is certainly well deserved. Since he arrived at PHS 5 years ago, Mr. Hahn has worked tirelessly to improve and expand the music program. His students arrive early and leave late. They are as dedicated to him as he is to them. He is always looking for ways to showcase the talents of his students. Just this month alone, he and his students performed at 12 Grapes and the Paramount as well as at the Homecoming game at Depew Park.
Before becoming a music teacher, John Hahn played in the orchestra for many first-run Broadway musicals. In recognition of Hahn’s selection as Teacher of the Month, WHUD will present a donation of $500 to Peekskill High School.
The question that WHUD asked that won Mr. Hahn the award.
Why is he Teacher of the Month?
Mr. Hahn loves teaching music to us kids. His life lives and breaths music. He allows us to experiment and create our own songs and always has a word of encouragement. I for one am more focused in school because of Mr. Hahn, music and the band. He’s simply awesome- the best teacher I’ve ever had. Our band and school are better because of Mr. Hahn.
Mr. Hahn is a passionate music teacher. He treats his students with the utmost respect and makes each one of them feel like they are unique. He tries to incorporate family unity by including parents in some performances. Peekskill High School is a better school and the community is blessed to have Mr. Hahn both live and work here. Our youth’s future is brighter because of John Hahn.
