“Much Ado” Arrives at PHS Thursday, April 3

This past weekend I accompanied one of our advisors, Ms. Prentice, to an educational production by the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival of  Shakespeare’s play Much Ado About Nothing. Held at Paramount Hudson Valley, the matinee was the first complete performance in front of an audience for the Spring season, running through May 2nd. Directed by Christopher V. Edwards, the very funny performance includes interactive screens, a modern soundtrack (including a special acoustic version!) and an educational talk-back session to answer questions, clarify any possible double castings and encourage the audience to get involved! The show’s modern twists include a setting change to a college campus and social media/cell phone references, indulging the trending topic #HeroWasBelied.

In the words of the Festival itself, “Our 2014 production is Much Ado About Nothing – Shakespeare’s beloved comedy where gossip, reputation and the battle of the sexes are front and center in the public forum of the digital age.”

Following a tradition of many years, the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival has been coming to educate and entertain our ninth  grade English classes over the last couple of weeks in special workshops about the play and its characters. The troupe will also be performing the show in our own auditorium on Thursday, April 3 beginning at 12:40 p.m.  No ninth grader should miss this!
