Peekskill High School’s very own John Testa won the recent election for Westchester county legislator against fellow Peekskillian Dominic Volpe. As county legislator he works with 16 other legislators to determine the laws and policies for the county. Mr. Testa personally has two goals he hopes to accomplish as a county legislator. He wants to make sure that both the cost of living and the taxes are low. Mr. Testa most importantly wants to be a good representative for the people in the district, District 1, which consists of Peekskill, Verplanck, Montrose, Buchanan, the northern part of Cortlandt Manor, and a small part of Yorktown.
While a teacher at the high school, Mr. Testa was asked to be on the Parks and Conservation board in the city. From there he joined the Zoning Board. Then in 1997 Mr. Testa was asked to consider running for city council. He ran, won, and began work as a councilman in January of 1998/ After four years on the city council; he decided to run for mayor of Peekskill. Mr. Testa served as mayor for three terms.
After serving as county legislator Mr. Testa has no further aspirations for higher positions in his political career. This is because he never really had any aspirations in the first place. He said, “It just kind of happened.”
On behalf of everyone at Peekskill High School, I would like to congratulate Mr. Testa and wish him good luck as county legislator.
