Meet and Greet the New Teachers at PHS
There are many new teachers and staff joining us this year at PHS. These include Ms. Miller, Ms. DeChent, Ms. McDonnell, Ms. Brenyo, Mr. Stevens, & Ms. Thorpe. Mercury reporters asked all of them various questions about what they teach, what their thoughts are on PHS, what colleges they attended, and what their favorite hobbies or sports are.
Ms. Miller is brand new to Peekskill High School. She is a special education teacher and a co-teacher in math classes. This is her first year here and she has received a warm welcome by the staff and the students. That is what she says she likes most. Ms. Miller went to SUNY New Paltz and is a huge fan of basketball.
Ms. Thorpe is also brand new to Peekskill High School. She works as a guidance counselor and loves doing her job. She says that “the students and staff are great. The community is caring and I’m really happy to be here.” Ms. Thorpe attended The University of Buffalo and the College of New Rochelle where she graduated from. Her hobbies includes hiking, yoga, and spending time with her family. She has three dogs and is training one to be a guide dog for the blind.
Mr. Stevens is another relatively “new” guidance counselor here at Peekskill. Many of you may remember Mr. Stevens from last year as he was a guidance counselor replacement and worked with Ms. Stewart. Mr. Stevens likes Peekskill High School very much and says “it’s very caring, with very interesting staff and personable students.” He went to the University of Rochester. He enjoys reading & sports. In particular he likes football. His favorite football team is the New York Giants.
