Peekskill Students Decorate Downtown Windows with Winter Themes
By Brittney Pauta
On Thursday, December 3, storefront windows on South Division St. in Peekskill were painted for the holiday season by students, ten years and older, from the Peekskill School District in a collaboration with professional artists from Peekskill in Light Committee, a subcommittee from The Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art.
Approximately twenty students from Peekskill Middle School, Hillcrest Elementary, and Peekskill High School participated in the window painting event. The students, including myself, painted various winter scenes on the windows ranging from a New Year’s Eve theme on The Hudson Room restaurant’s windows to a Christmas theme on the windows of Ford Piano. Many students stayed to approximately 4:30 p.m. finishing their paintings before it was time to leave due to the cold weather that had left many of the young artists’ hands stiff from the cold, but worth it for the end result.
The students enjoyed their time painting in the activity as it was the first time an event like this occurred for the holiday season and many were more than satisfied with the painted windows. The window paintings can be viewed at anytime on South Division St. from the Hudson Room to right around The Chamber of Commerce. Go by and see what the young artists have done to beautify the city in time for the holidays.
There are sixteen storefront windows that are going to be painted and there will be upcoming announcements for those dates.
