As the Peekskill Varsity boys’ soccer team wraps up their regular season, their growth and success has been recognized by many teams in the section such as Somers, Lakeland, and Byram Hills. The Red Devils have successfully overcome any challenges thrown their way as shown through their strong record, ending at 12-2-2, earning them the #2 seed in the Class AA bracket.
Peekskill’s team is well-rounded with boys who’ve played together since they were kids, “On our roster, 19 out of the 23 players are seniors,” Coach Iasillo stated. Coach Iasillo himself has received some recognition from other coaches in the section for what he’s done with the team. Throughout the season the boys have worked hard on their soccer skills and beyond their abilities with the ball, “Since the start of this season, we have stressed: maintaining a focused mindset, consistent communication, good decision making, a fast speed of play, and to show balance in our play. This is a very talented, dedicated team,” Coach Iasillo said.
The boys advanced to the quarterfinal round after winning their 1st sectional round by a score of 3-0 against No. 15 Gorton on Oct. 26th, with goals from: Chris Chalco, Melvin Criollo, and Daniel Farez. For the boys’ Quarterfinal round on Oct. 29th, they comfortably secured their spot in the Final Four – Semi-Final round after outscoring opponent No. 7 Roosevelt with a score of 5-1, with goals from: Randy Tapia (2G), Umaru Conteh, Maddox Lozada, and Juan Ventura. With all the momentum they’ve built, the boys are fired up to take on Fox Lane 10/31 and make it to the Finals!
