In the minds of many students in this high school is, ‘Why do we have to wear certain clothes for school? And when did wearing certain other pieces of clothing become a problem?’
I do not see what is wrong with wearing pajama pants, shorts or ripped jeans to school. Teachers are wasting their time in the morning checking if each kid is dressed according to the rules. Firstly, teachers and the staff should be worrying about us getting our education and us getting into college. As long as we’re coming to school every day and learning something, they shouldn’t worry about how we dress. Secondly, not everyone wants to wear jeans to school everyday & would like to wear pajama pants for a change; personally, I don’t see anything wrong with that! I like to be able to feel comfortable walking from class to class.
Coming to school in the spring and summer is the worst part about the dress code. Some days the temperature is 80 or more degrees and a t-shirt won’t cut it. Wearing a tank top or tube-top to school would be much cooler. And sandals or flip flops are also cooler and if there were a fire in the school, we could run outside faster than if we had on two to five inch heels. I understand that the school district wants us to dress like young adults, but we want to live our teenage lives – though that’s another topic of discussion.
I speak for many in the student body that we need to get rid of this dress code because as young adults we know what’s right and wrong to wear in public places. Hopefully this will go to the superintendent of schools and she will take it into consideration to change the high school dress code.
