Peekskill Gets it Together Against Poughkeepsie
Play Panas today at 6:15
Friday, January 31st marked the first time in a LONG-LONG time in which Yorktown beat Peekskill. Earlier this year, Peekskill had beaten them by 27 due to a great shooting performance, staying in transition and by playing stellar defense. Friday was a different story. Although Peekskill played with great energy, their defense was horrid. They couldn’t stop Sophomore Luis Cartagena who scored 31 of his team’s 59 points. The team was certainly disappointed at this loss but they couldn’t dwell on it, as they had to play in less than 24 hours against Poughkeepsie.
The next day was a new month and it felt like a new team was on the court for Peekskill. Led by Senior Forward Neorck Brown, who had 25 points & 7 rebounds, the Devils made Poughkeepsie turn the ball over a whopping 30 times and excelled in the transition all game long. Anthony Guerrero put up 15 points, Chavis Pigott had 13 points & 7 assists and Laron Holt neared a triple double with 10 points, 9 rebounds & 7 steals. Junior Guard Jalen Tookes contributed well off the bench, playing stellar defense, with a handful of steals and a couple of buckets. Peekskill plays Panas today at 6:15 at home, seeking revenge from a controversial buzzer beater that Panas hit against them earlier this season. Make sure to come out and support your Devils!
