Spring Sports Recap
Last night, participants of all spring sports were honored last night with their families, teammates and coaches. Although only one team made sectionals, the teams’ success wasn’t defined by their win-loss record.
Boys Varsity Lacrosse (1-14)
With the return of former coach and Peekskill’s own Sean Mulholland, the boys Varsity lacrosse team went through radical changes to break bad habits and the wrong attitude set by other coaches. The team won a big upset against Haldane and showed great hustle throughout the season. Naim Mickens earned All-League honors and finished the season with 37 points (26 goals and 11 assists). Shemar Davis scored 9 goals on the season, Anthony Gentile had 12 points on the season and Ahmad Banks earned Team MVP honors playing Defense, Attack and Midfield. Starting next year there will be a Junior-Varsity team as well as a Girl’s Club Team. The future for Peekskill Lacrosse looks very bright.
Varsity Baseball (4-16)
The Varsity Baseball team was the only spring sports team to make sectionals. Led by All-League and All-Section Honorable Mention Junior, Anthony Murphy, who led the team in hits (26), homeruns (8), RBI’S (23) and batting average (.472). Also Coach Chris Salumn was voted Coach of The Year by his peers. If Murphy can continue to put up great numbers and other role players step up, the team is bound for another playoff appearance.
Track and Field (5 wins)
Led by All-Section Sophomore Chelsea Ogindo and All League Sophomore Elijah Travis, the Track Team won 5 meets this season. Chelsea Ogindo earned All-Section Honors in the 800 M and 1500 M. These two stars are young and the future is bright for them with more hard work and dedication.
Varsity Softball (1-18)
Led by All-League Senior Catcher Simmy Kaur, who ended the season with a batting average of .407, the Ladies endeavored a tough season winning one game against Hamilton (17-2). The Junior Varsity Softball team went 5-8 on the season.
Boys Varsity Tennis
Much like the Boys Varsity Swim Team, The Boys Varsity Tennis team partnered up with another school (Putnam Valley) and 3 players including Peekskill’s own Rodrigo Baser, and Putnam Valley’s Zach Nolan and Miguel Correa earned All-League honors.
Congratulations to all of the Players and Coaches and good luck next season!
