As a result of the recent JIT Review of our school, a number of changes are being implemented at PHS. Among these modifications is the replacement of
Principal Lazarus. I had the opportunity to sit down with Ms. Lazarus to discuss this decision.
According to Ms. Lazarus, the Superintendent of Schools, Mr. James Willis, informed her that he felt that a new principal would be beneficial in carrying out the recommendations made by the JIT Committee. Faced with this proposition, Principal Lazarus made the choice to resign from her position.
After speaking with her, I felt it was clear that Ms. Lazarus had a pleasurable experience here at PHS. She said that her days here were always exciting, and she enjoyed the challenges that the diverse setting of Peekskill offered. She also complimented the cooperation of her administrative staff and the determination of the student body. As one of her parting wishes, Ms. Lazarus indicated that she wanted the students to be strong, and it is evident that she has high expectations for our future success.
Ms. Lazarus plans to continue to work hard at being the best principal she can, through graduation on June 24th and her official resignation on June 30th. Her summer plans include trips to visit family in Alaska. For next September, Ms. Lazarus claimed that she will continue somewhere as a school administrator, with no plans of retirement. As her final words to the incoming principal she said, “Take care of my kids.” On behalf of the Mercury staff, I wish her a graceful exit and luck in her future endeavors.
