On December 11th, 2012, about 30 of Ms. Brown and Ms. Lombardo’s students went to the Katonah Museum of Art in Katonah, NY. There were students from all grades who went on the trip.
When we finally got to the museum, the first exhibit we saw was called Joseph Wheelwright: Tree Figures. It was a few trees carved to look like people. It was the first exhibit we saw because all of the trees were right outside of the museum.
When asked what led Joseph to trees as an artistic medium, he said, “Early in my career it was a question of economics. In the low income years, art supplies were often too expensive, so I looked to nature to provide the materials.”
Another exhibit the museum displayed was “Ice Age” to the Digital Age: The 3D Animation Art of Blue
Sky Studios. Katonah had many of the original sketches from popular Blue Sky Studios animated movies such as: Robots, Ice Age, and Rio.
They taught us the animation process, and they also showed us the process of making an animated movie. Lastly, they had the students make their own little characters out of paper, and made a mini stop-motion movie.
The trip to the Katonah Museum of Art was very interesting. Every season they have new exhibits so the museum never gets old. If you ever have the chance to go to the museum, then you should because it is very appealing. You can also keep going back during different seasons because there will always be something new on display.
