Peekskill High School’s Red Devils basketball team emerged victorious in the Section 1, Class AA championships held at the Westchester County Center, defeating Suffern in a thrilling showdown. Senior team member Kadin Sales, reflecting on the monumental win, described it as “gratifying” and emphasized that “happiness was long awaited.”

The journey to the championship was not without its challenges. In the regional semi-finals against Our Lady of Lourdes, the Red Devils faced a nail-biting match that ended in a one-point defeat. However, Kadin revealed how the team was even more driven under such circumstances, saying, “We thrive when the stakes are high. Everyone is with us. The fans are on our back, and we are carrying them through the storm.”
Despite the heartbreak of the season ending abruptly, Kadin sees it as a valuable lesson, remarking, “It shows us that not everything is forever.”
Bringing home the Section 1 championships title was not just a triumph for the team but a unifying moment for the community. Kadin highlighted the evolution of the crowd’s support, noting, “The crowds initially were sparse, but we got to watch how the crowd grew. Community has always been there, now it’s great to see them come out for the celebration.”
Behind the scenes, Coach Tyrone Searight played a pivotal role in guiding the Red Devils to victory. His strategic leadership and unwavering support were instrumental in shaping the team’s success throughout the season. Coach Searight’s dedication and commitment to the team’s development both on and off the court fostered an environment of discipline, perseverance, and unity.
Throughout the season, Coach Searight’s mentorship instilled confidence in the players and encouraged them to push their limits, ultimately culminating in the Section 1, Class AA championship win. His passion served as a source of inspiration for the entire team.
As Kadin looks toward the future, he offers advice to younger players, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and dedication. “Continue playing. That’s all there is. Put your effort into all seasons, and it will show,” he advised. He also stressed the need to maintain a balance between academic excellence and success on the court, urging younger players to prioritize their studies.
The victory of the Peekskill High School Red Devils serves as a testament to the team’s resilience, unity, and unwavering commitment to success both on and off the court.
