On June 3, 2024, Alberto Rocca, Mr. Vidrini’s friend who lives in Italy, joined our Peekskill High School Sculpture class via video call. The students learned about Mr. Rocca’s art, which led to their own art creations.
In college, Alberto Rocca studied at a prestigious art institute in Italy, which led to his working with a paleontologist company, designing recreations of dinosaur bones. Upon realizing that this career path did not fulfill him, he made the bold leap to pursue a different path. Inspiration came to him after stumbling upon some driftwood while walking along the beach with his dog. This led to his personal journey as a sculpture artist. He advises students, “If you want to be an artist, you will always be judged. Don’t let that deter you from finding your joy and what is inside your heart.” The kids were receptive and enjoyed learning from Mr. Rocca.
Furthermore, Mr. Vidrini, offered students the opportunity to work on this project in the Robotics room, where they used different tools to design and create the driftwood art they envisioned.
The Art Department looks forward to continuing this tradition and including more students in the 2024-2025 academic year.
